You will find a Wardrobe Inventory in an upcoming blog that will help you organize your closet and accessories.
To simplify your life and create your winning first impression, follow these guidelines:
· Decide on the look that is right for you. It should work with your personality, lifestyle, career and budget. The right image for a trial attorney will differ from that of an English professor and both will differ from the image of a software engineer. An image consultant can help you determine this or you can look through magazines and cut out photos of looks that inspire you and that you want to emulate.
· Go through your closet and get rid of worn, ill-fitting pieces and anything that does not match the look you have chosen. You will find it much easier to dress when you have things organized.
· Decide on three basic colors that either match or coordinate with what you own. Buy only those three colors for your basic pieces. Again, an image consultant can help you identify your best colors.
· Make a list of all items you need in your wardrobe, e.g. a solid blazer, wool pants, navy suit, white shirt, etc.
· Think carefully about each purchase. Make sure it will go with at least three other things in your wardrobe.
· Avoid trendy items that will soon be out of style. Buy only one or two accessory items in each season’s trend if you want to update your wardrobe.
· Never compromise on fit, no matter how great a buy.
· Continually eliminate and replace essential wardrobe pieces as they become worn or outdated.
· Buy more solids than prints. They are more versatile, and you will not tire of them.
