Have you made progress on your resolutions for 2013, or if you are like most people, have they already been abandoned? The ability to motivate yourself to take action is the mark of a professional. Even though you may not have made the commitment you intended to make in January, there is still time to kick start your motivation and make a difference for the rest of 2013.
Motivation is an inside job. Only internal motivators are lasting and compelling. Here are some tools to keep yourself motivated.
· Focus on the benefit you get from taking the action. It’s not exercising for 20 minutes five days a week. It’s the pound you lose this week, the bikini you will fit into this summer, the more energy you will have.
· Create a visual representation of what your life will be like when you succeed. Cut pictures from magazines and download images from Google.
· Acknowledge what you accomplish. Keep a journal and note every success. When your motivation weakens, review your past achievements and keep going refreshed. One of the most important ingredients in staying motivated is to believe in yourself and in your ability to accomplish your desired outcomes. Make sure you talk to yourself positively every day, stop criticizing yourself and making statements that don’t support you. Be your own best success coach.
